ECTS Information Packages

Introduction

European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a learner-centred system for credit accumulation and transfer, based on the principle of transparency of the learning, teaching and assessment processes. Its objective is to facilitate the planning, delivery and evaluation of study programmes and student mobility by recognising learning achievements and qualifications and periods of learning. It is a standard for comparing the study attainment and performance of students of higher education across the European Union and other collaborating European countries. For successfully completed studies, ECTS credits are awarded. One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS credits that are normally equivalent to 1500–1800 hours of total workload, irrespective of standard or qualification type. ECTS credits are used to facilitate transfer and progression throughout the Union. ECTS also includes a standard grading scale, intended to be shown in addition to local (i.e. national) standard grades.

Qualifications Framework of the European Higher Education Area

The basic framework adopted is of three cycles of higher education qualifications. The framework of qualifications adopted by the ministers at their meeting in Bergen in 2005 defines the qualifications in terms of learning outcomes. These are statements of what students know and can do on completion of their degrees. In describing the cycles the framework makes use of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS):

  • 1st cycle: typically 180–240 ECTS credits, usually awarding a bachelor's degree.
  • 2nd cycle: typically 90–120 ECTS credits (a minimum of 60 on 2nd-cycle level). Usually awarding a master's degree.
  • 3rd cycle: doctoral degree. No ECTS range given.

In most cases, these will take 3–4 years for a bachelor's degree, 1–2 years for a master's degree, and 3–4 years for a doctoral degree, respectively to complete. The actual naming of the degrees may vary from country to country. One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS-credits that are equivalent to 1,500–1,800 hours of study.

There are four information packages in three levels of MIS education; first cycle, Bachelor's degree; second cycle, Master's degree, and third cycle, Doctoral degree. Each information package contains, (1) information about the program and its course structure, and (2) outcome matrices. You can visit below links to reach all content of them.
