Short Bio

I have been in academia since 2001. I started my career as a Research Assistant and worked in Informatics Department & Distance Education Centre of Sakarya University. I received a BEng degree from Sakarya University Industrial Engineering Department in 2001 and a Master’s degree in the same area in 2003. Then, I pursued my PhD degree at Manchester Business School, United Kingdom. After the completion of my PhD in 2009, I worked as an Assistant Professor in Industrial Engineering & Management Information Systems Departments at Sakarya University. During the periods between 2013 and 2018, I worked in two different universities in Ankara; Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University and Social Sciences University of Ankara. I acquired the title of Associate Professor degree in 2014 in Management Information Systems area. Currently, I am full-time Professor in Management Information Systems Department Decision Sciences Unit at Izmir Bakırçay University. I also have project experience in inter-disciplinary projects at national & EU-level and worked as Project Coordinator for some EU-funded projects. Besides my academic duties, I carried out administrative duties at Sakarya University as European Union Framework Programs Coordinator, and Vice Dean and Head of Marketing Department at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, and the General Coordinator of Rectorate Committees at Social Sciences University of Ankara. I also worked as Secretary General for İzmir Bakırçay University between the period of January 2018 and June 2020 and now working as Vice Rector for R&D and Entrepreneurship.

Statement of Research

My research spans a wide range of areas within the context of data/decision science/analytics. I carry out research usually on the applied aspects of pertaining computational methods to address all stages of the data modeling and analytics as well as optimization. I have several research interests including methodological issues in data/decision science/analytics, business intelligence and decision support systems, marketing/customer analytics and artificial intelligence/intelligent systems/soft computing applications in business and health domains.

Statement of Teaching

My goal in all the courses I teach is that each student understands the core principles/fundamentals and/or tools/technologies of the topic and relate or make them utilize these to the corresponding discipline/subject that they are studying. I also make students to comprehend how those principles, digital tools and technologies are reflected/utilized in real world scenarios/cases to enable them to acquire/learn contemporary ways of modelling and decision making for any problem/issue that they may face and to develop skills on designing or re-engineering a system that they are a part of throughout their professional careers.
